Frequently asked questions
Common questions from attorneys evaluating LawyerAudio.
Product & workflow
Does this give legal advice to my client?
No. LawyerAudio is a communication tool that helps you deliver attorney-authored and attorney-approved content to clients. The audio explanations are drafted from your documents and reviewed by you before sending. We don't provide legal advice; you do.
Can anything be sent without my approval?
No. Every piece of content requires explicit attorney approval before it can be shared with a client. Nothing auto-sends. You review, edit, and approve, then share.
What happens if the draft script is wrong?
You edit it. The draft includes citations to source documents so you can verify claims. You have full control to revise, add, or remove content before approval. Nothing reaches your client until you're satisfied.
Do you train AI models on my data?
No. We do not train any AI models on your data. Documents and scripts are processed using OpenAI or Google APIs for summarization and audio generation. These providers do not use API data for model training, and your content is not retained after processing.
What data is shared with third parties?
Your documents are sent to OpenAI/Google to generate draft scripts, and your approved scripts are sent to generate audio. All data is encrypted at rest in our systems and securely transmitted over encrypted connections. Our providers are contractually prohibited from using your data for training or any purpose other than providing the service, and content is not retained after processing.
What file types do you support?
We currently support PDF and Microsoft Word documents (.doc, .docx). More formats are on our roadmap based on member feedback.
Can paralegals draft and attorneys approve?
Yes. This is a common workflow. Paralegals can upload documents and prepare draft scripts, while attorneys review and give final approval. The Firm plan includes role-based permissions to support this.
Security, confidentiality & compliance
Where is my data stored and processed? Do you offer data residency?
LawyerAudio is hosted on AWS in the United States (Northern Virginia / us-east-1).
Document processing and audio generation uses OpenAI or Google APIs (see Security & Data Handling). If your firm has specific data residency
requirements, email us and we’ll walk through options.
Do you have SOC 2 / ISO 27001 or third-party penetration tests?
We can provide a security overview and complete vendor security questionnaires. If you require specific attestations or testing artifacts, contact us and we’ll share what’s available under NDA.
Who can access my matters and client content?
Access is controlled by your firm via role-based and matter-level permissions. Clients access content only via private links you generate. If your security review requires details on administrative access and support procedures, contact us and we’ll provide documentation.
Do you support MFA, SSO (SAML/OIDC), and SCIM provisioning?
If your firm requires MFA, SSO, or SCIM, contact us. We’ll confirm what’s currently supported and align on requirements and timelines for your plan.
Can you sign an NDA/DPA and provide a subprocessor list?
Yes—on request we can provide procurement documents (including a subprocessor list and data-processing terms) and work through your vendor review process.
What is your incident response and breach notification process?
If your firm requires specific incident response documentation or contractual breach notification timelines, contact us. We’ll address these items as part of your security review and subscription terms.
Will you sign a HIPAA BAA?
If your use case involves PHI (for example, medical records), contact us to discuss your compliance requirements and whether a BAA is needed for your deployment.
Data lifecycle & records
What are your default data retention settings?
You control retention policies for your firm and can delete content at any time. If you need a written retention schedule for your internal policies or vendor review, contact us.
When we delete content, is it removed from backups too?
We can delete content from active systems on request and can share our backup/restore approach and deletion timelines during your security review.
Can we export a complete matter record for our client file?
Activity logs are exportable for compliance. If you need full exports (scripts, audio, and activity history) in a specific format, contact us and we’ll confirm available options.
What happens to our data if we cancel?
You can request an export and deletion. We’ll confirm the export window and deletion timeline as part of your subscription terms.
Client sharing controls
How are client sharing links secured, and can we revoke access?
Clients access content via secure private links. You can set expiration dates and revoke access at any time. Clients don’t need to create accounts.
Can you prevent link forwarding or require recipient authentication (password/OTP)?
Today, the primary controls are link expiration and revocation. If you need additional controls (recipient verification, OTP, IP restrictions), contact us and we’ll discuss requirements and options.
Can clients download audio or transcripts? Can we disable downloads?
If your firm needs strict controls around downloading, redistribution, watermarking, or branding, contact us and we’ll confirm what’s supported for your plan.
What does the audit trail include?
Audit logs track generation, edits, approvals, sharing, and client listening events. Logs are exportable for compliance.
Do you support transcripts, captions, and accessibility features?
If your firm needs transcripts/captions or other accessibility features, contact us and we’ll confirm current support and roadmap.
Do you support non-English languages and different voices?
Language and voice requirements vary by practice area and client population. Contact us with your needs and we’ll confirm what’s currently supported.
Procurement & billing
Do you provide suggested client disclosure/consent language for AI-assisted drafting?
We can provide sample language as a starting point, but you should tailor it to your jurisdiction, engagement terms, and ethics obligations. LawyerAudio is a tool for attorney-authored communication—nothing goes to a client without your approval.
Who owns the scripts and audio?
Your data is your data. You own your documents and the attorney-approved content you create in the system.
What are your standard contract terms (liability, indemnity, insurance)?
We’ll provide standard terms during procurement. If you have outside counsel guidelines, vendor addenda, or insurance requirements, contact us and we’ll work through them.
What counts as a “client update,” and what are the limits/overages?
Client updates are metered when you generate and share a client-facing audio link. Internal audio is not metered. Plan limits and any overages are defined in your subscription; contact us if you need higher volumes.
Are there file size/length limits and turnaround time guarantees?
We support PDFs and Word documents. For current limits (page count, file size, audio length) and expected processing times, contact us and we’ll confirm the latest guidance.
Do you offer an SLA, uptime commitments, and defined support hours?
If your firm requires an SLA, uptime commitments, or defined support hours/response times, contact us and we’ll align on what’s available for your plan.
